About Us

Nga Mihi Nui. Haere Mai ki te Poutama
'A warm greeting to you. Welcome to Poutama.'

Poutama is the name of our Agentic Learning Community at Russell Street School in Palmerston North, Manawatu, New Zealand.

It is named 'Poutama' after the 'step-like' pattern from the Maori Tukutuku panelling which symbolises growth and striving ever upwards.

Poutama has 90 year 5/6 students who are all striving for Creativity, Excellence and Self Agency in their learning.

There are three whanau teachers in Poutama. Elly Warnock, Nic Mason and Troy Duckworth. We each have a core group of 30 students in our care, but our learning is collaborative and all students could learn from a different teacher for Reading, Writing, Maths or Inquiry.

We have a fantastic bunch of part time teachers who help out too. Charlotte Whitta, Suzanne Smith and James Rea all contribute to each child's learning also.

This space is designed to give you a window into Poutama life and where we can connect with YOU.
